Masters rowing has become very popular in the last few years with more mature people coming back to rowing or trying the sport for the first time.
The UBC masters concentrate on active participation and enjoyment in the sport while also using it to keep fitness levels up. Many masters are also involved in the club through the committee and coaching younger crews.
The masters rowing has a wide range of sporting level:
8:30 Sunday morning / 6:30 Wednesday morning to the top of the course and back.
Hamilton Lakes (only 800m, over before you know it.)
Winter Series (handicapped long distance races, any age and ability can win these ones.)
NZ Masters Games (Serious in a casual way)
Domestic season (2000m and raced at club level)
NZ Masters Rowing (run by Rowing New Zealand, Serious)
World Masters Games (very serious)
World Rowing Masters Regatta. This is the biggest regatta run annually by FISA. This year it will be in Posnan, Poland, http://www.2011fisamasters.poznan.pl . In 2012 it will be in Duisburg, GER and in 2013 in Varese, ITA.
The lower age limit to be a master is 27 years. 7 age groups go up to 75+.
