Indoor rowing has become a popular sport. The “Concept 2” is the default rowing machine used worldwide. Results from one machine can be compared to another machine in any other country. Recently (13-14 August) the Rowbox* was at the Splash Centre car park. People tested their fitness and compared their times with others. On the second day the Rowbox* was at the River Trader’s Market.
UBC has a gymnasium equipped with Concept 2 rowing machines that all club members can use. The gym is also equipped with the usual training tools: Weights, Exercycles, Leg Press, Swiss Ball etc.
Every Masters Games held in Wanganui, as they will be Feb 2011, has an indoor rowing competition. Those interested should contact UBC or New Zealand Masters Games.
*The Rowbox is a specialized shipping container that has four Concept 2 rowing machines and interactive visual displays. The four machines are linked up to a screen so each rower rows in a virtual world on Lake Karapiro.
